Monday Dec 19 01:14amOne of my biggest cravings while living in Mwanza is poutine. The Mister and I are notorious poutine eaters (yeah, not the most healthy food). Remember that trip to Ottawa we took? It was also an ‘eat as much poutine as possible’ getaway. We really only had it twice because after the second time my body said, “Please eat some fresh vegetables.”
The photo above is some poutine we had in Ottawa at the Elgin Street Diner. The fresh-cut shoestring fries (the perfect poutine fry if you ask me) were amazing and something I’ve never seen. Speaking of things I’ve never seen - the darkest gravy ever? All in all, the poutine was good but could have used more curds.
The real winner on the trip was our stop in Cornwall before we reached Ottawa. I’ve always heard that Cornwall has some of the best poutine - even better than Montreal. I’ve never had poutine in Montreal so I can’t really compare, but the poutine at The Loose Caboose blew my mind hole.
Fresh-cut fries, the tastiest poutine gravy I’ve ever had, and the most delightfully squeaky curds. My only beef is that Cornwall is so far from where we live (about a 7 hour drive).
Not the greatest photo considering we used the Mister’s cell phone to take it.
And yes, the Mister and I always put black pepper on our poutine.
